Our July trip to Whiddy Island is on next Sunday, 17th of July, leaving from the Old Railway Pier, Bantry at 1:30 p.m.

TheTour willl be guided by Charlie McCarthy, Sheep's Head, and will include a visit to the site of the battery overlooking Bantry Bay.

An uphill walk of less than a mile to the site of the battery, with the last section through fields, strong walking shoes advisable.

Refreshments will be available at Bank House at pier.

Note that the main Bantry Town Pier is currently closed, and that the ferry is leaving from the Old Railway Pier (continue past Main Pier to Square and veer left, car park available on right).

There will be a charge for the ferry.

Return ferries at 15:45 and 17:45

The Skibbereen and District Historical Society

     The Society is based in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland.  The Society    was founded in January 2002, after two month's preparation, with the aim of encouraging interest in the history of West Cork and the Skibbereen area in particular.

    The Society organises talks on various historical topics, and these talks are normally held in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen, on the last Thursday of the month.  Field trips to historical sites are also organised during the summer.

    The Society is a voluntary non-profiting making organisation and is affiliated to the Federation of Local History Societies.
